The Finish Line We Didn't Know We Needed

Look around at the start line of any running event — a 10K in Dhaka, a half marathon in Berlin, a trail race in the hills of Kathmandu. You'll find something that has quietly become rare in modern life: a crowd of strangers, standing side by side, breathing the same morning air, sharing the same nervous energy, all about to do something hard together. Nobody is looking at their phone.

She Runs Anyway

That joy is meaningful, whether she intends it to be or not. Every woman who runs in public broadens the imagination of every girl who sees her. The girl on the footpath watching a woman run does not dwell on social taboos. She thinks: that looks like it feels good. I wonder if I could do that.
